The national elections are going to be held in February. And the practice of using players to campaign for parliamentary candidates before the elections is not new in Bangladesh. Many players also run off on their own for various purposes. However, this scene will not be seen this time. The National Sports Council (NSC) has banned the use of players in election campaigns.
In a statement signed by Deputy Secretary Aminul Ehsan today, the Sports Council said that no player from the national team can be used directly or indirectly in the election campaign of any political party or in campaigning for any candidate; players must refrain from appearing on the stage of any election meeting or in campaign activities; all players must personally strive to uphold the reputation of the country through their sportsmanship and must strictly follow the instructions of the National Sports Council in this regard.
The Sports Council also said that any deviation from the above instructions can seriously contaminate the healthy sports environment prevailing in the country, which is completely undesirable. Therefore, all concerned are requested to properly follow the instructions for the overall welfare of the country.
