A new movie ‘Dhakaiya Devdas’ is being made in the context of the people, society and culture of Old Dhaka. It will be made by Zahid Hossain. Adar Azad and Shabnam Bubli will play the two main characters in it. The official journey of the movie Dhakaiya Devdas will begin today with a mahurat ceremony at a club in the capital.
The director said that Dhakaiya Devdas is basically a love story movie. The tradition of Old Dhaka will be highlighted in the story of two people. Zahid Hossain said, ‘This is a love story. This story will be highlighted in the mix of our centuries-old tradition of Old Dhaka. Old Dhaka is a place where there is a mix of different religions, castes and cultures. Everyone celebrates Sakraan, Eid, Muharram and New Year together. There are many more cultures that many of the current generation do not know. These cultures will also emerge through the stories of two people.’
Regarding the name Dhakaiya Devdas, Zahid Hossain said, the name Devdas has been used metaphorically. Those who fail in love, think of themselves as Devdas. In the story of this movie too, the hero starts thinking of himself as such after failing in love. That is why the movie has been named Dhakaiya Devdas.
The director said that the shooting of the movie Dhakaiya Devdas will begin next January during the Sakraine Festival. He wants to shoot in real locations during the festival to properly portray the traditions of old Dhaka on screen. Apart from Adar-Bubli, Tariq Anam Khan, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Rashed Mamun Apu and others will also act in it. The movie is being produced and distributed by Excel Films and Revolution Movies International.
Dhakaiya Devdas is the fourth movie of the Adar-Bubli duo. Adar Azad and Shabnam Bubli started their journey on the big screen as a pair with Saikat Nasir’s ‘Talaash’. The movie was released in 2022. Their second movie ‘Local’ was released in 2023. It was directed by Saif Chandan. Last year, they acted in Zahid Jewel’s movie ‘Pink’. There was talk of the movie being released on Eid this year, but it did not happen. The movie is awaiting release.
