Let’s face the people without threats: Tarique Rahman

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called on anti-fascist political parties to move forward on the path of the national parliament elections in February without threatening the interim government. He said, ‘As a political activist, I would like to once again draw the attention of the allies of the anti-fascist movement on behalf of my party and say – let’s face the people in February without threatening the current weak interim government.’

He made this call while virtually joining a discussion meeting at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday. The meeting was organized by BNP on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

Tarique Rahman said, when the ground is being prepared for the establishment of a government accountable to the people, some political parties seem to be taking or have taken a stand against the establishment of the political rights of the people who want democracy, taking advantage of the weakness of the interim government.

The BNP Acting Chairman also said, ‘I think every political party should remember one thing seriously. There is a large number of apolitical people outside their own party. I think it is the sacred duty of every political party to look after this community. Discussions have been held for months, but the big question now is how much discussion has been held regarding the interests of this huge community.’
Describing the current crisis as ‘unnecessary’ in the president’s speech at the discussion meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, ‘I think this crisis has been created purposefully. That is, to obstruct the path to democracy in Bangladesh; to obstruct the elections that need to be held for real reforms in Bangladesh; Putting the future of the people in an uncertain state.’

Calling for unity to deal with the crisis, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘Let us all agree from this place today and unite together to stop those conspiracies and pave the way for the transition to democracy.’

BNP Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Hafizuddin Ahmed, AZM Zahid Hossain, former Dhaka University professor and economist Mahbub Ullah, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Liberal Democratic Party President Colonel (Retd) Oli Ahmed, among others, also spoke at the meeting.
